Chocolate Teapots

Chocolate Teapots John 10:1-10 I AM the gate John has a whole slew of metaphors going on in this part of his gospel. Jesus is the shepherd, the gate and the gatekeeper. It all gets a bit complicated. But perhaps we can bring them all together in reflecting about what gates do in this portion of the gospel: the are barriers between in and out. But they aren't closed barriers. The gate opens. It's quite important to remember that. The gate opens, and takes the sheep out. That too is quite important to remember: the gate opens so the shepherd can lead the cheep out. So even as we seen ourselves in this scenario being sheep, we aren't sheep locked up in a sheepfold, but sheep sent out from the sheepfold into the world. The gate and the gatekeeper, to not hem us in, lock us away or protect us from experiencing the world. Quite the opposite: the gatekeeper opens the gate and sends us out. The gospel isn't narrow at all, and nor is the gate or the way but opens out into all the world where we are expected to be. So any hymns for suggestion on Sunday. It is communion too so a sheep/gate/bread/wine mash-up would be good!
