These Olympics are not good for getting to bed! Winning things is quite addictive but have you noticed that everyone who has won has a story (obviously!).

But they do. The humanity of it is that each is an individual and I can almost tell you about each medal we've won though not people's names. Perhaps that says something about ourselves that these really are individuals.

I'm never going to be like them and while they inspire I can honestly say none have inspired me to take up a particular sport: would never have been good enough and never wiling to give the time to find out.

Yet a country now feels it knows these folk like their best friends and that;s not a bad place to be. At this time and in this world, if that inspires us to be better neighbours then we really have struck gold.
