How many award ceremonies for films can there be? Why is one not enough? It’s all the same films so surely we could get it over and done with in one go and have just one exposure to those acceptance speeches.
Though the reaction by Mr Trump to Meryl Streep’s speech has been interesting. No one is ever going to persuade him a response that comes from a supposed right to say anything you like to someone who criticises you is inappropriate because he doesn’t seem to build relationships with folk on that basis.
What is interesting is tying that to the passage we have this week of Jesus setting out his manifesto: his own acceptance speech. Folk were just as cynical about his as Meryl Streeps.
Big difference however is that Jesus words became flesh. They didn’t become tweets or headlines. And that’s the kind of acceptance speech you want just just to hear, but witness becoming something more. His words become descriptions of the kind of relationships he establishes.
