We began #CREED tonight beginning to explore the Apostles Creed. A good number there too.
Others will be able to say how it went but it opened up a few questions about what we mean by the words we use to describe our faith which is what the session looked at when they thought about the questions we pose to prospective candidates when they formally join the church. In that instance we reworded the questions to be more honest about what we mean when we describe ourselves but in order to do that we said we would bring back the Creed as it linked us to others in different places as well as throughout time. But even using that ancient document opens up so many different ways of understanding what we mean by 'belief', 'God', 'Almighty', 'Maker' and 'Heaven and Earth' all of which we visited tonight.
Of course we hardly scraped the surface and it is only going to get more difficult to do so as we go through it over the next five weeks.
But what we did recognise that doing this during Lent is important to us for this season is a breather to all the others. It is a time to do something different that reminds us whose we are and the path we are on.
So a few suggestions were offered tonight via the creed to help us recognise a special season that brings us closer to our faith and you can find them all on the CREED discussion page of this site.
These ideas allow us to recognise this special season and shape a different space as we move towards easter. If anyone has other ideas or experiences on how to engage with the creed post them here or on the website. You'll find all the above there too for reference.
