Chocolate Teapots

The great day of disappointment. Jesus was entering Jerusalem knowing his followers and many others were ready for a fight. They were champing at the bit for a kingdom fight. Heaven was on its way. They could hear the angel armies sharpening their halos. This was the cusp of the divine revolution. Salvation. Hosanna!

What a disappointment. As his followers were ready to take up arms, Jesus was ready to die without a fight. He moves towards sacrifice and suffering and knows he'll be the greatest let down to those who were expecting so much from him.

Yet the daring part of the process (rather than plan) is that disappointment isn't the last word. For love to get through this week, that is the love that gives of itself and in giving of itself can only then find new life, for this love to get through this week, disappointment is the nature of love. Love is dying. It has to. It is not all it is expected to be. It hasn't brought in the revolution. Instead it dies.

Now we've been disappointed in what we thought love was about we can begin again.

Which is exactly what happens.

It is Palm Sunday so what music and hymns would you like to sing to take you through this week?
