Rather than being the birthday of the church, Pentecost is the rebirth of the church in all its diversity, colour and creativity.
Why is that so hard to get?
Why has the ecumenical movement been so slow? Dare we not wish for rebirth but keep as we are? We cannot be people of the spirit then.
It is where God is at God's more creative in the rebirth of things: in the imagination of this incarnation and what this relaunch will offer and what lessons have been learned to create a newer version of the church.
Perhaps this sunday we should sport new logos, new uniforms, new hymns and new versions of the bible to allow ourselves to step into the idea of what rebirth is all about. Enough of the birthdays. Bring on the relaunch, the renewal, the rebirth.
