Faith

September 30, 2016

Voice 1:
(image of night sky)
I was dared to look up
and there it was,
a ribbon of light,
milky
and bright,
a sky running-over with stars,
and I dared believe
this was a map of the future,
a lifetime of joining up the dots
and shaping names
for children yet to be.
Here was the beginning of faith.

Voice 2:
(Image of sunrise though trees)
I was dared to take off my shoes,
and there it was:
a bush
with leaves aflame,
dancing in freedom,
burning away the chains that bound us
with the promise of liberation
and journeys ahead,
but I could not see
until I removed my shoes,
and then the world changed.
Here was the beginning faith.

Voice 3:
(image of daisies)

I was dared to be there at dawn,
and there it was:
an empty tomb,
empty garden,
empty world,
as if Adam had been thrown out once more,
and I asked the gardener,
“Where?
Where have they put him?”
But I knew
before his voice called my name
that this was the new Adam,
the gardener had been restored to the garden.
Here was the beginning of faith.

Voice 4:
(image of breakfast table)
I was dared to journey,
and there it was:
Emmaus,
and with our new companion,
persuaded to stay,
we sat at table,
but when he tore the bread in two
the light exploded
as the loaf fell
from hands no longer there
and hit the table
with crumbs bouncing in holy motion.
Then there was just a space
where our companion had been,
and in that space we recognised him.
Here was the beginning of faith.

Voice 5:
(people walking)
Under starlight,
on holy ground,
in the garden,
and at the table,

Voice 6:

these are places of faith
and places of faith,
are where adventures
are born.
