Book Group met tonight. Caught up with reading last months book which didn't get much of a thumbs up but did open up themes of prejudice, culture and how we still organise our community along bias lines. Interesting.
Then we all received this months book: Entry Island by Peter May. It so happens I'm already reading it, yay, so might get it finished for next month.
It has a secondary story of migrants from the clearances of Harris and Lewis arriving in Canada. Speaks into the contemporary clearance (for different reasons... perhaps) of Syria and migrants finding a safe place but there is no entry island for them. A very real theme that keeps coming back.
Biblical as well: always the migrant, who will we welcome, who remains a stranger, who do we fear, who has the land, who has the power... It's all in the Old Testament.
