When we debate why in the west we are making more risky choices about our future and say it is because we are scunnered with the political classes, what do we lose?
Hearing Nigel Farage tonight make his remarks about Jo Cox's husband it feels like he is a mini Donald Trump who feels he can say just what he likes without considering how that is heard by others. It's an attitude of saying what you like without any foresight or consideration for others. It just feels at times, that while we are losing trust in the political classes (of which he is a part ironically) we aren't replacing them with anything better. Indeed we are losing something far more valuable: our concern and compassion for each other.
Clearly this has always gone on. It has happened in every generation but it seems that those who claim we are entering a new era where leaders can't laud power over us, are turning out to offer us a worst model of who we can be, not a better one.
