You should have a wee look at Preshal Trust (http://www.preshaltrust.org.uk/). We had May Nicholson from the trust speaking at our Bearsden Churches unity supper.
What came out of it for me was yet another example that as agencies and government withdraw support for local communities and their needs, the church can become what it was originally called to be once more. This is beyond denominationalism or even Christianity: simply be angents that transform the local community with a passion for right relationships and just living. All that means is: lets care for the least again.
We thought we has set up governments etc to do that, handing over the original experience of being church to bigger authorities and while schools and hospitals etc still work best like that, the ‘little people’ are being forgotten and that’s where local church once more comes into its own. It is what Preshal does. It’s what Glasgow City Mission does. Iut is what alot do already.
Wake-up call for all of us to move from survival and presbytery planning to being local agents of transformation. Jesus has a word for that: welcome.
