Zacchaeus had a name and a reputation and the two were in conflict. Here's a wee reflection that will be used in the second service on Sunday (remember there is a 9.30 - intergenerational and then 10.30 - classical service).

What a name you’ve got

'tax collector'

What a name you have

'Righteous One'

What an irony that is

righteous sinner

righteous taxman

righteous thief

Those hopes your parents had

when they gave you such a hopeful name

‘Righteous One’

must have fallen flat

when they heard

about your choice of career

what fools they were

to have such a cynically named son

Such a name

such a reputation

that you hid among the branches

yet maybe that name you have

Righteous One

did not fall on deaf ears

did not leave your heart cold

but was a lifetime's aspiration for you

an intent

a longing

powerful enough

that a saviour felt it

among the leaves

of one

who craved for change

and longed to live up

to such a challenging name

So come down Zacchaeus

O Righteous One

and live up to the name

your parents gave

the saviour

has now blessed'
