Psalm 13

There is a fabulous version of this psalm in CH4 that offers a bluesy, crunchy tune that offers lament in a whole range of ways.

Sometimes we can be very prescriptive about our worship and use a lectionary each week and keep to it often regardless of what is going on in the world. At other times we find the passages in the bible that speak into the needs of the world at that particular time.

The Psalms is a book that perhaps we ought to know a whole lot better as the songs there were written not for a lectionary but for real life and this particular Psalm should possibly have been our first choice of reading the Sunday following Manchester or London Bridge.

We are using it this Sunday because it is prescribed for this Sunday but may that failure to be aware of the range of emotions and responses the psalms offer be a lesson to learn these songs and then to use them more readily in response to the needs of the world, our communities and ourselves.
