This is why so many have issues trusting political leaders: the US has just made a multi-billion dollar deal with Qatar to sell them fighter jets weeks after they made another multi-billion dollar deal with Saudi Arabia. Saudi and Mr Trump say Qatar is funding terrorism, the US defence department say Qatar has an enduring commitment to regional security. Other say Saudi are funding terrorism. Yet despite that, they are all being sold weapons.
It just illustrates once more, as if we need more illustrations, of a totally vacant ethic as if what we do with one hand has nothing to do with the other.
It just sits so crudely with the fire in Grenfell Tower where there is growing discussion about why we treat poorer folk quite differently from more wealthy. That's not the cause for a fire in a tower block clearly but it has focused how we treat folk from different economic backgrounds.
The world is selling arms to folk who are fighting each other while we forget the poor because I doubt the income from those arms sales are going to be fed back to those who need it most (not that that would make it any more ethical).
Again an ethic vacant of any decency or humanity.
