Sheep & Shepherd stories
Here's a week when we can relax a bit and admit we aren't near perfection and regardless of how all these adverts convince us they have the product to make us so, this week we admit, we ain't. And the wee phrase that perhaps we can hang all the sheep and shepherd stories on in the Bible is from Matthew 9:36: When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
That wee phrase proves that we are human. When we are in that harassed and helpless state, thinking we have a million things to do and we haven't lived up to expectations and stuff isn't happening the way we planned, and there isn't enough time to get done all we said we would get done, then in that moment we are human. And Jesus winks and says, "okay, now we can perhaps get some kingdom stuff done rather than your own stuff. Come with me..."
Take the time to reflect on the harassed and helpless moments this week. It's where we are most able to choose the kingdom, who just so happens to have a shepherd and some idea about where to go.
