We've come to the end of our wee series of using art images to gather the stories of the bible rather than one single passage each week. We began with beginning stories and we end with ending stories.
But can you find one in the Bible?
Whenever you think about ending stories, each simply spills into a new beginning. Take the story of the ark, it ends with a rainbow, which is just the archway that leads into a new story.
Or there is Abraham about to sacrifice Isaac. The ending. But then there is a ram (not a lamb, the normal sacrifice) caught in the bushes behind him and so the ram is sacrificed instead of Isaac: the old generation is sacrificed (the ram) and the new generation is set free into the world.
Or ultimately, the cross and death of Jesus which is only the prequel to the bigger story of resurrection and the experience of new life.
Where are the ending stories. Whenever you think of one it seems the Bible tricks you into what is actually another beginning story.
