It is our Harvest Festival on Sunday and here we have a passage which is all about enough.
The Hebrews are in the wilderness. they are hungry, homesick, grumpy and have all fallen out with God and Moses. This Land of Milk and Honey thing is not going well and God gets an earful. (No need to script this part. You can imagine...)
Eventually God holds the divine head in the divine hands and wonders why none of them Get It yet. God was never going to leave them hungry. God was never going to abandon them. God certainly was fed up with their moaning and promised that this generation wasn't going to get to the LOMAH but God wasn't about to starve them into submission.
So thus came the manna and the quails, every morning, just enough. And that's the secret. Just enough. No need to store up. No need to invest for a higher return. no need to scurry away for a rainy day. Take just enough and you'll have enough. Bit like God's call on how we should still be living in the balance of creation.
And you know what, perhaps we are still waiting for the LOM&H because this generation still hasn't Got It and to take just enough. Might as well get used to this wilderness. Might be here quite some time.
